Welcome to our class web page. My name is Petria Sully and I am thrilled to be teaching 4th grade at Gravenstein. I have a 28 year old son that lives in Tahoe and is pursuing a career in snowboarding, a 25 year old daughter who is working in the production industry in LA, a 21 year old and a19 year old stepdaughter. My step daughters went to Twin Hills Middle School, the same Jr. High that I went to for 6 months and met their dad! We are celebrating our 7th year anniversary this summer.
I have been in education for twenty three years. I taught fifth grade for six years and fourth grade for 12 years. My last assignment in Placerville before moving to Sonoma county was as my district's Common Core Coach. I worked with teachers and students from kindergarten to eighth grade. I coached teachers and modeled lessons to support the transition of the Common Core State Standards. I enjoyed having the opportunity to work with educators in multiple grades and subject areas. I have grown as a teacher from all of them. I have really enjoyed my first seven years at Gravenstein. I feel very fortunate to be part of the Gravenstein community.
I believe in setting the bar high and having a growth mindset. I know students can succeed given the opportunity, support and skills needed to achieve their goals. My classroom fosters communication, collaboration , creativity and critical thinking. It is a positive environment with a sense of community and respect. I am very excited about teaching your students at Gravenstein. We are going to have an amazing 4th grade this year!
